Prince Malachi Van Renssalaer of Mevendia is getting married. The problem? He’s never even met his bride. His father arranged everything, right down to the marriage contract. Malachi swears to himself that he will be nothing like his father in the ways that count - including his fidelity to his wife. Jessabelle Keller would happily spend her entire life in obscurity, but her father once saved the life of a future king. Before he dies, her father is committed to seeing that king make good on his promise to have one of his sons marry her so she would be taken care of for life. No sooner than Prince Malachi and Jessabelle return from their honeymoon, they find themselves dealing with both private trauma and the very public drama of groundless accusations from the press. Just as they begin to weave their fragile trust back together, a ghost from the king’s past arrives and threatens everything they’ve ever held dear. Secrets have a funny way of coming out and this one could rip the faith of the country in their leaders to shreds. Malachi is determined to protect Jessabelle no matter what it takes, but will it ever be enough for her to not feel like a Hand-Me-Down Princess?

OH.MY.GOSH, I'm wiping tears. Just finished this book and I have to say, I've read the whole series up to this point and loved this one the best so far! Malachai - ohmygoodness, he is like the most perfect prince you could ever imagine! I adored his character! I got a little perturbed at Jessabelle at times (lol I love the play on that, since Malachai is a Biblical name, it's like the author took the name Jezebel and redeemed her, loved that it was the combination of two names. awesome.) But Jessabelle's actions would make me stop and work it out in my mind - now why did she say that, or do that? Ok...it's because of...... She was a complex character, indeed, and by the end, I could identify with her and understand where she was coming from. Malachai I loved the entire time. And may I say thank you to Carol for creating this awesome trio of countries and families of royals that are true Christians! I love that practically the first thing they do when something happens is to stop and pray. I'm a practicing Christian myself, and I want to say thank you, because many aspects of these books have inspired me to an even closer walk with Jesus. I loved the insight into the daily lives of the royals, and I loved how very human she makes each one. The only one still cardboard in my mind is William, but I'm assuming he gets his own book, lol. So - kudos to my newest favorite author! Thanks for a job well done!Product details

HandMeDown Princess The Brides of Belles Montagnes Volume 1 Carol Moncado 9780990987277 Books Reviews
I'd read another of the books in this series when it was free, so decided to give this one a chance.
It takes a while to get into this one, and it's not among the author's best work. The characters have a hard time connecting because they've just had some seriously different lives AND there's a huge twist. Any number of the characters (read the King) are also secretive jerks who are 1) unhappy with everything that the hero and heroine do but 2) won't tell them what else to do and 3) the heroine gets bad treatment for being herself even though everyone knows she's in over her head. (The whole subplot with the flower show is the perfect example of this.)
While the hero is trying to be a good man, it takes a lot to bridge the distance. I found a lot of the heroine's thought process to be understandable, and felt a lot of the book feeling bad for her.
Characters from some of the other works appear, and Moncado is good at not trying to stuff too many characters on stage.
It's a clean read with Christian characters, although some bad acts are shown/mentioned by other characters - but nothing too graphic or detailed.
SPOILER
So the big spoiler is similar to the one in Jo Beverley's An Unwanted Bride - the bride is actually the illegitimate daughter of the king, and the groom (believed to be the son of the king and queen) is actually only the son of the queen - but it seems to be okay because the royal families are pretty closely intertwined anyway.
I would recommend this book to anyone who feels they have no purpose in life...cause God Our Heavenly Father has a purpose in life for all of us. We just have to slow down and listen to hear His plan.
I love how this author quotes from the Holy Bible...God's word for us here on earth.
This book shows life isn't easy all the time but with God in our lives we can make it it through the hard times.
When I started this book, I was expecting a predictable storyline and contemplated not even reading it. The writing was good enough that I decided to do so and I am so glad I did!!!! It was far from predictable. I didn't even guess some of the twists and turns. It was a very good read and I found myself looking forward to when I would have time to read a few more pages of it (I have a very full and busy schedule some weeks). I do recommend reading this book.
Jessabelle is the hand-me-down princess to Prince Malachi of Mevendia. His brother, William, crown prince, had already rejected her. So now she has been passed off to his younger brother in an arranged marriage neither of them wants. As their unhappy marriage begins, Jessabelle can’t help but feel bitter toward the lopsided vows she takes—to be true to her husband, but he only vows to be true to his country…not his wife. This story tugged my heart this way and that as I cheered for the unhappy couple to grow to know and love each other. But so many obstacles stand in their way—another woman, the King father who seems less than happy with the marriage he himself arranged, and other deterrents. Intrigue, action, heartbreak and romance unfold in this tale. It was quite enjoyable and had some great twists I didn’t see coming.
This is my first book by Carol Moncado that I have read. Though I haven't read any of her previous books, I was sucked in immediately to the world in which these characters live. I love romances where the plot is about a royal or a potential royal character/characters! I was hooked from the first page, and I had to force myself to go to sleep it was so awesome!
The two main characters Prince Malachi and Princess Jessabelle are about to get married. They should be like any other happily married couple right? What is there to be nervous about? How about if Prince Malachi and Princess Jessabelle have never actually met each other in person! Each of their fathers made a promise that should anything happen to Princess Jessabelle's father, she would marry either Prince William or Prince Malachi. Princess Jessabelle has already been rejected by Prince William twice, so she doesn't have much confidence that Prince Malachi would ever be happy with a hand me down princess.
I love how their relationship develops and Princess Jessabelle becomes more confident in who she is. Prince Malachi is the sweetest husband always looking out for Princess Jessabelle and making sure she is reminded how beautiful he thinks she is not only in his eyes, but also God's. Near the end of the book, what Prince Malachi wrote for Princess Jessabelle almost brought me to tears.
I would highly recommend this book! I have already ordered the third book, Prince From Her Past. If I choose to get the second book, Winning the Queen's Heart I will possibly do a review for that too.
